Labour Day taking place in Peru on May 1st has reminded us of the importance of complying with legislation in this area. Felipe Chirinos, Labour Lawyer at ONTIER Peru, has talked to the legal section of El Peruano about some of the highlights of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment Promotion has published the 2016 Sectorial Statistical Yearbook, which includes data on the number of accidents at work that have taken place in the country. This study reveals more than 20,000 accidents at work in Peru during this period. The capital of the country, Lima, is the region with the highest number of registered cases.
The aim of this act is to promote a culture of prevention in matters of occupational risks through the active participation of companies and workers and the control of the State. Some of the most important principles of this act have to do with prevention and responsibility, among others.
